General Information | The Kornati Islands with its turquoise waters and its singular shape are a very popular sailing destination. There are 140 islands, islets and reefs in the whole archipelago in the northern part of Dalmatia, south from Zadar and west from Sibenik. 89 of them are located inside of the Kornati National Park, protecting the islands and their marine surroundings. None of the islands is permanently inhabited, but many mainland landowners from Murter or Dugi Otok have their summer houses on Vrulje, Kravjacica, Lavsa and other well-protected coves. They host 69 varieties of butterflies and a peculiar underwater life with algae, coral, sponges and the rare and protected mollusc "Pinna Nobilis". But most of all, their particular landscape that sometimes reminds an extraterrestrial terrain is of a unique beauty and recognizable at first sight. But also the rest of the Northern Dalmatian islands and coast is full of beautiful beaches, has a rich cultural heritage, spectacular national parks and some of Croatia's most charming towns with an excellent cultural offer. |
