General information

The Ionian Islands are a real jewel of Greece and just perfect for yachting.
The archipelago that lays between Greece and Italy in the Ionian Sea is more protected from the strong Meltemi in summer and with its mild and temperate climate just ideal for family cruises or sailing beginners. It features twelve small and large islands, each one with its unique personality, offers great yachting facilities, hospitality and services and is easy to reach by plane or ferry.

But above all the Ionian Sea is one of the most beautiful corners of Greece with a multitude of picturesque bays, adventurous diving possibilities, limpid sky-blue yet deep waters, incredible panoramic landscapes, a rich culture and history and last but not least some of the best beaches in Greece.

Places to visit

  • Kerkyra (Corfu): This island is maybe the Mediterranean's most cosmopolitan destination with its rich international history and lifestyle due to the Venetian, French and British domination, its important monuments (the old town of Corfu is a UNESCO site), its powerful natural landscape and transparent waters, its great cultural heritage that attract visitors from all over the world.
  • Zakynthos (Zante): Under Venetian occupation for almost three centuries the island was called "Fior di Levante", the flower of the East, thanks to its rich vegetation with over 7000 species of plants and flowers. The diversity of its landscape offers both sandy beaches and rugged cliffs with an amazing underwater world.
  • Lefkada (Lefkas): Together with Corfu it is one of the best known islands of Greece. It is surrounded by 24 small islands and a floating swing bridge connects Lefkas to the Central Greece's mainland. A great mix of attractions make this island so interesting for your yachting holiday: one of the best equipped marinas in Greece, many sport possibilities (kite surfing, mountain biking and paragliding), traditional towns and churches, nightlife, wonderful beaches.
  • Ithaca: The legendary home island of Odysseus, where his wife Penelope waits for his return for 20 years, symbolizes discovery, haven and fulfillment. Despite its celebrity, the island is more peaceful and undiscovered than the nearby Kefalonia and is an ideal place for activities such as hiking and mountain biking, scuba diving and sea kayaking and, of course, for following the paths of Odysseus by visiting the "Cave of the Nymph".
  • Kefalonia: The biggest of the Ionian Islands with its breathtaking beaches, cliffs and caves, its crystal clear waters, its green mountains, its vineyards, pine, cypress and olive trees is not only an island of an astonishing natural beauty but also a big cultural centre with an upbeat nightlife, a local philharmonic orchestra, shops and boutiques, traditional music, historical and archeological monuments and a delicious cuisine.
  • Paxi (Paxos): The island of Paxos that was chosen as the cultural village of Europe in 2004 is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Picturesque villages, ravishing beaches, underwater caves and shipwrecks, olive trees, small bays and green hills contribute to the special charm of this island.
